After a lunch break, enjoy a 2-hour walk along the train tracks to reach Aguas Calientes, where you’ll stay overnight in a cozy hostel. The following day, hike up to Machu Picchu and explore the breathtaking Inca citadel with our knowledgeable guide. Then, head back to Hidroeléctrica for your bus ride back to Cusco. The departure of our bus will be at 7am from the boarding office located at the San Pedro station. Our first stop will be the town of Ollantaytambo. After thirty minutes here, we will continue the trip with the bus along a winding ascent towards the Abra de Málaga, a magnificent and very steep mountain pass at the foot of the the mountain Nevado Veronica. The pass is 4316 meters high and comes with an amazing view of the surrounding mountains and Peruvian jungle landscapes. After a brief stop for photographs, we will begin the descent through the jungle towards the towns of Santa Maria and Santa Teresa. We will arrive in Hidroeléctrica just in time for lunch at 1pm.
At the train station, we start our walk towards Aguas Calientes along a picturesque road on the banks of the Urubamba River next to the train line. Arrival time in Aguas Calientes will be approximately 5.30pm. After having been assigned to the respective hostels or hotels, there will be free time to rest or visit the hot thermal baths. At around 7:00pm, we will enjoy a delicious dinner and receive a briefing from the guide who will take us to the citadel of Machu Picchu on the next day.
You will have the option of walking up to Machu Picchu or taking a bus up. The guided tour will begin at 6am and will have a duration of at least 2 hours. After the guided tour, you will have free time to explore Machu Picchu, take photographs or rest while contemplating Machu Picchu until 10:30am. Back down, we will walk back to Hidroelectrica and board our car to continue our return to Santa Teresa. There, we will have a one-hour-lunchbreak at 1:30pm. Later, we will continue the return to Cusco along the same route that we took on the day before, arriving in the city center at around 9:00pm
