Palccoyo, a vibrant mountain range in Cusco, offers a stunning alternative to the classic Rainbow Mountain. Featuring three distinct rainbow-colored mountains adorned with ocher, red, green, blue, and white stripes, this hidden gem also boasts a stone forest and locals dressed in traditional attire alongside their llamas and alpacas.
A visit to Palccoyo promises breathtaking landscapes and the chance to marvel at the vivid colors of the mountain range. The best part is that this experience is accessible to all, requiring only a gentle, hour-long walk without significant elevation changes, making it a more manageable option compared to the longer trek to Vinicunca Rainbow Mountain. Book your tour to the Palccoyo mountain of colors today and uncover one of Cusco’s hidden treasures!
Between 4:30 to 5:00 am, you get picked up at your hotel so that our bus can head towards the South of Cusco for around 1,5 hours until we reach our first stop: the colonial bridge in Checcacupe. We continue our journey on an unpaved road along the left bank of the Salcca River for 1 more hour with a view on alpacas, the red Puka Mayu river and the surrounding beautiful mountains. Finally, we will arrive at the community of Palccoyo. Located at 4100 meters above sea level, from this point we will have privileged views of the colorful Palccoyo mountain range. With its 3 visible mountains, we will also see a stone forest that is at 4500 meters above sea level. The colorful mountain of Pallccoyo is an excellent option for people who don’t like hiking. After 1,5 to 2 hours in this beautiful place, we return along the same route to the district of Cusipata, where we will have a delicious buffet lunch, before heading back to Cusco to return between 5:30 an 6pm. The passengers will be dropped off one block away from the Plaza de las Armas.
