Cusco, Sacred Valley, Aguas Calientes, and Machu Picchu Citadel.
Full day (Approx. 16 hours). Starts at 04:00 a.m. and ends at 20:30 p.m.
Certified professional guide (Spanish / English).
We will pick you up from your hotel early in the morning. You will board our tourist van for an approximately 1-hour and 45-minute trip to the train station in Ollantaytambo, in the Sacred Valley.
We will board the train (PeruRail or IncaRail). You will enjoy a spectacular 1-hour and 30-minute journey where you will watch the Andean landscape gradually transform into a lush tropical jungle.
Upon arrival at the Aguas Calientes station, our guide will be waiting for you. We will walk a few steps to the bus station (Consettur) to embark on a 30-minute uphill ride along the zigzag road to the entrance gate of Machu Picchu.
The most awaited moment! We will enter the Wonder of the World. Our guide will take you through the most important points of the circuit, explaining the history, the megalithic architecture, and giving you time to take the classic postcard photographs.
We will take the bus down to the town of Aguas Calientes. You will have the afternoon free to explore the town, visit the artisan market, and enjoy lunch at a restaurant of your choice before heading to the station.
You must check in at the Aguas Calientes train station 30 minutes before departure. You will board the return train to the Ollantaytambo station, saying goodbye to the mountains.
Upon your arrival at the Ollantaytambo station, our private transport will be waiting to bring you back to the city of Cusco, dropping you off a few blocks from the Main Square.
The climate in Machu Picchu is cloud forest (tropical, warm, and humid), very different from the cold in the city of Cusco. In addition, there are strict rules for entering the wonder. Take note of the essentials:
Yes, it is 100% mandatory. The Peruvian government and train companies require you to present your Original Passport (or the identity document used for booking) physically. If you only bring a photocopy or a photo on your cell phone, you will be denied boarding the train and entry to the citadel with no right to a refund.
Machu Picchu has a very limited daily capacity established by UNESCO. To secure the main circuit, we recommend booking at least 2 months in advance. For high-season dates (May to September), booking 3 to 4 months in advance is ideal.
Our agency will always strive to secure Circuit 2 (Classic Circuit), which allows you to take the famous postcard photo from the guardian’s house. However, due to new Ministry of Culture regulations, tickets are strictly subject to availability at the time of purchase. If you book on short notice, we may offer you alternative circuits (Circuit 1 or 3).
It is neither recommended nor logistically viable. The Huayna Picchu mountain requires a special ticket (Circuit 3 + Huayna Picchu) that sells out months in advance, and the hike takes an additional 3 hours, which would cause you to miss your return train schedules on a single-day excursion. If you wish to climb Huayna Picchu, we recommend a 2-day itinerary.
Surprisingly to many tourists, Machu Picchu is much lower than the city of Cusco. While Cusco is at 3,399 meters above sea level (masl), the Machu Picchu citadel is located at 2,430 masl. By dropping nearly a thousand meters, your body will have more oxygen, making it very unlikely to experience altitude sickness here.
No. Due to strict heritage conservation regulations, it is strictly forbidden to enter Machu Picchu with drones, tripods, selfie sticks, or pointed umbrellas. If you bring any of these, you must leave them in the lockers at the entrance gate.
You can carry light snacks (energy bars, dried fruits, chocolates) in your small backpack, but eating, having a picnic, or leaving trash inside the archaeological citadel is strictly prohibited. You must consume your food before entering or after leaving it.
